Much of what ICE Holdings does is informed and guided by this need to develop unique solutions for our African context. Like security solutions, for example. Cornell Tome, Group Director of ICE Holdings, has a deep heart for his community and a keen interest in its security. Around five years ago, this set the company on a journey to find a more complete vehicle security system than what was available.
After half a decade of research and development, which included a series of months-long real-world tests on South African roads, our findings were presented to a developer, Hikvision, for product implementation.
Hikvision’s fleet management and vehicle security product comprises three high-end cameras – front, rear and driver-directed, with artificial intelligence and analytics, as standard – which record the vehicle’s trip and also feed real-time notifications back to the fleet manager. The driver cam is particularly useful as it analyses a driver’s behaviour – warning of fatigue or erratic behaviour – and can also be programmed to recognise a specific designated driver.
Every vehicle’s solution is flexible, being designed according to a customer’s requirements, with the following features available as add-ons to the standard three-camera system: An in-cab passenger-focussed camera, a panic alarm function and GPS positioning for speed tracking, path tracing and deviation monitoring. In addition, the manager can speak directly to the driver with the two-way audio system.
A local insurer of emergency vehicles recently accepted the system as a preferred security solution, with the added benefit of it also functioning as a fleet management tool.
